Something for Everyone

Conveniently Located
The Bear's Den is minutes from Lake Lure Beach, Chimney Rock State Park, and the village. National Geographic Magazine ranked Lake Lure as one of the top scenic lakes in the world. There are water-sport rental options (kayaks, wakeboards, boats, etc.) and pontoon tours on the lake.
The iconic Chimney Rock, for which the village and State Park are named, was featured in Arthur Frommer's Sept/Oct 2012 issue of Budget Travel magazine. The park received the platinum award for Favorite State Park in Blue Ridge Country’s 2013 Best of the Mountains travel poll, with voting every five years and covering seven southern states in the Appalachian Mountains. Several excellent golf courses are nearby, including Apple Valley Golf Course, Bald Mountain Golf Course, and Etowah Valley Country Club and Golf Resort, which Golf Digest rated as one of the top 50 golf destinations in the US.
If you enjoy scenic drives, head out of Lake Lure on Alt 74 (curvy and scenic Memorial Highway) through Chimney Rock Village, Bat Cave, Gerton, Fairview, toward Asheville to pick up what many consider the most beautiful length of road in this country, the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you have not traveled this stretch of road, it is worth adding to your bucket list. Actor Norman Reedus of The Boondock Saints and The Walking Dead fame featured the parkway on a 2016 episode of his AMC TV series Ride with Norman (Appalachia: Blue Ridge Parkway, Season 1 Episode 3). Just 1.25 hours from home and five miles off the parkway is Maggie Valley, home to the Wheels Through Time transportation museum, which features rare American motorcycles, memorabilia, and a distinctive array of one-off American automobiles.
This home is centrally located just 15 minutes from Bat Cave, 35 minutes from Hendersonville, 50 minutes from Asheville, and about 2 hours from Charlotte, North Carolina. Also nearby are Pisgah National Forest (less than 1 hour from Lake Lure), with over 500,000 acres of protected forest, and DuPont State Recreational Forest (1.25 hours from Lake Lure), with over 10,000 acres. These forests feature hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and horse trails, exquisite waterfalls, and beautiful mountaintop views. If you and/or your children are fans of The Hunger Games book and movie, a scene with Katniss and Gale was shot at the Pisgah National Forest. A few small but significant scenes were also filmed at the DuPont State Recreational Forest.
The Lake Lure/Chimney Rock is conveniently situated for outdoor adventure, including horseback riding, tubing, water sports, and hiking; museums and theater; the Biltmore Estate and Village; shopping and restaurants; and so much more. If you visit once, we are confident you’ll return again and again for the rest, beauty, fun, comfort, and hospitality. We hope to see you soon and look forward to you being our guest!

What our guests say

Very clean and fabulous front porch! Good location and charming interior. Only one shower, but if you are a tub soaker, there is a very nice jetted tub in the master bath.
Well equipped home with a great view. Porch is large and can be gated for kids or dogs. Kitchen has everything necessary for most meals. Comfortable bedding and linens. Will go again!
This place is near and dear to our hearts. We spend a lot of time there when life allows. It's a true log cabin, not a house with fake log siding, and it feels log cabiny but with the mod cons you'd expect. It's not only a great place to enjoy the lake, but it's a good jumping off point for local trails, Chimney Rock, Saluda, Hendersonville, and Asheville. All the great things of a mountain house but with convenient access to Western NC attractions and civilization. Enjoy!
